Why run for city council?

Florence is a strong community filled with hardworking families, small businesses, and people who care deeply about where they live. Like many residents, I believe our city’s best days are still ahead — but that future depends on leadership that listens, communicates openly, and makes decisions with the entire community in mind.

After serving my country in the United States Army, I learned that leadership is about responsibility, accountability, and putting others before yourself. Those same principles should guide local government. I’m running for Florence City Council because I believe our city deserves leaders who are focused on practical solutions, transparent decision-making, and representing all residents — not just one group or viewpoint.

Florence continues to grow, and with growth comes important decisions about infrastructure, development, public safety, and maintaining the quality of life that makes our city such a great place to call home. These decisions should always be made with careful consideration for the people who live and work here.

My goal is simple: to help ensure Florence remains a safe, thriving community where families can succeed, businesses can grow, and residents feel confident their voices are being heard.

Public service is not about politics — it’s about people. I’m running because I believe Florence deserves leadership that puts the community first.

My Story

Jim Leach is a retired United States Army officer, community advocate, and candidate for Florence City Council who believes public service is about one thing above all else: putting people first.

After dedicating a significant portion of his life to serving our country in the U.S. Army, Jim retired with a deep appreciation for leadership, accountability, and teamwork. His military career shaped the values that guide him today — integrity, responsibility, and a commitment to doing what’s right, even when it isn’t easy.

During his years of service, Jim learned that strong leadership isn’t about politics or personal agendas. It’s about listening, bringing people together, and making thoughtful decisions that benefit the whole community. Those same principles are what drive him to serve the residents of Florence today.

Jim believes local government works best when it represents everyone, not just one political viewpoint. He is running for Florence City Council to be a voice for all residents — families, seniors, business owners, and young people building their futures in the community.

A strong supporter of transparent government and common-sense leadership, Jim believes citizens deserve to understand how decisions are made and how their tax dollars are spent. He is committed to promoting policies that encourage responsible growth, protect the character of Florence, and ensure the city continues to be a safe, welcoming place to live, work, and raise a family.

Jim also understands the importance of supporting local businesses and maintaining a thriving local economy. Florence’s success depends on creating opportunities for businesses to grow while ensuring that development remains balanced and beneficial for residents.

Throughout his life, Jim has believed that the best solutions come from working together. His leadership style focuses on collaboration, respect, and open communication — because strong communities are built when people feel heard and valued.

As a candidate for Florence City Council, Jim Leach is committed to bringing steady leadership, transparency, and practical solutions to the challenges facing the city today.

Most importantly, Jim believes the role of a city council member is simple:
serve the people, protect the community, and help Florence continue to move forward.

That’s the mission behind his campaign.
